coral reef

Coral reef // WIP

This is an sculptural project in which a collection of ceramic pieces comes together to form a kind of marine ecosystem. The initial idea was to create an installation where the pieces could be scattered throughout the space—on the floor, walls, and hanging from the ceiling—transforming the room into a coral reef.

Through the use of color, I aim to highlight the challenges coral reefs are facing on a global scale. The most critical issue is coral bleaching, caused by rising ocean temperatures due to climate change. This occurs when corals, under stress, expel the symbiotic algae that provide them with nutrients and color, leaving them vulnerable and often leading to their death.
